La singularitat de l’espècie humana i la lluita per garantir el seu futur estan indissociablement vinculades a l’equilibri de la natura.La natura es deixa desvetllar per l’home a través de la ciència i de la tècnica, però no es deixa violentar per elles.
En un moment en què estem confrontats a una tremenda crisi sanitària, econòmica i social, hem de lluitar per la ignició d’una deflagració de noves idees i valors que s’entrellacin els imperatius d’evolució i progrés amb la recerca de la veritat, aportant lucidesa sobre l’entorn natural i la nostra pròpia condició en el si d’aquesta.

La actual crisis sanitaria nos ha llevado a una situación de emergencia de la que debemos resurgir asumiendo en primer lugar los problemas que nuestra sociedad arrastraba y sobre los que, posiblemente, nos faltaba un análisis más lúcido y mucho más solidario. Ahora hemos visto claramente, por ejemplo, que desde hace tiempo habíamos manipulado la flecha del tiempo que marca el destino de los mayores y ancianos.

Si no, ¿cómo explicar el drama del fallecimiento de los más mayores en geriátricos y residencias? ¿No es verdad que desde hace ya tiempo se viene produciendo un corte horizontal en el ciclo de las generaciones? Como ejemplos ahí tenemos la prolongación de la vida laboral para quién representa una auténtica esclavitud y la jubilación de muchos que ven en esta palabra un claro signo de desplazamiento a los márgenes de la vida social.

Esta reflexión constituye un posicionamiento (obviamente provisional y abierto a debate) en relación a un conjunto de problemas entrelazados que van a ser protagonistas en el teatro de operaciones del siglo XXI; problemas a los cuales la razón ilustrada necesariamente ha de confrontarse, y que se enmarcan en la cuestión general del vínculo entre la causa de la defensa de la naturaleza y la causa del hombre. Avanzamos algunos de ellos: La cuestión de la necesidad natural y el equilibrio que esta exige. El problema de las fuentes y tipos de energía (vinculado al anterior en la medida en que obviamente no habrá otra energía que aquella que la necesidad natural posibilite). La posible necesidad de replantearse la aparente vinculación de bien a progreso y la delimitación de en qué aspectos de la actividad humana cabe y no cabe progreso.

La energía y la materia están entrelazadas desde el origen del Universo. La materia que vemos está constituida por átomos, pero la energía se manifiesta de muy diversas formas: luminosa, térmica, química, etc. Los "números" de la energía y de la materia varían muchísimo con la escala en la que nos movemos: desde el mundo microscópico al astronómico.

Desde hace dos siglos estamos exprimiendo los recursos energéticos de nuestro planeta. El incremento del nivel de vida supone aumentar el consumo de energía, que también se multiplica por el galopante aumento de población. ¿Tendremos suficiente energía para continuar con esta carrera tan desenfrenada?

La evolución del Universo comprimida en una película de tres horas de duración mostraría la evolución de la vida en la última media hora y los humanos apareceríamos en escena durante sólo una fracción del último segundo. La humanidad se ha mostrado como un cerebro que quiere conocerse a sí mismo. ¿Cómo pensar que llegamos al final de la carrera, si acabamos de iniciar nuestro caminar racional? La energía ha de ocupar, a día de hoy, el centro de nuestras preocupaciones.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let me start my speech by thanking the European Parliament and the research officer Guiseppe Borsalino from the European Commission for their kind invitation. On behalf of the project SIforAGE (Social Innovation for Active and Healthy Ageing) and the interdisciplinary group GISME (Interdisciplinary Reflection Group and Math Solutions for Entities), it is a great pleasure and a honour to be here today.

The event we are celebrating today – “Towards a Europe for all Ages” – compels us to provide answers on how Europe will face the very important challenge of Ageing in the following years.

Report of the SIforAGE project's event at the European Parliament:

Europe is getting older. According to EUROSTAT, life expectancy at birth has increased by about 10 years over the past 50 years for both men and women in the EU-28. Between 2002 and 2013 alone, life expectancy in the EU region increased by almost 3 years. If in 2002 life expectancy in the European Union was 77,7, by 2013 it had risen to 80,6. The unprecedented demographic changes the European Union is facing are undeniable. The question arises as to how we should react to these data. Is ageing a problem or an opportunity?

SIforAGE project recommendation is to answer to that challenge with one word, innovation. The Social Innovation Incubator developed by SIforAGE brings together a large number of stakeholders whose work is involved with AHA and provides them with opportunities to exchange ideas, to benefit from mutual collaboration across Europe, and to disseminate their results through five Knowledge Management Units (KMUs). The Social Innovation Incubator provides added value to research by drawing together well-established innovative experiences.

In this exhibition we show the importance that the number has in all disciplines of knowledge and human activities. The numbers appeared 5,000 years ago even before the language and writing. It is very possible that millions years before Lucy had already looked to the sky to contemplate the sun (the one) the star (the two) and the stars (many). Since the appearance of numbers  humanity has become a very complex set of people whose behaviors are analyzed using algorithms based on numerical information. The curious thing about all this, is that if life fits a series of numbers with a small margin of error, it turns out that at present , the future of humanity lies in the numerical value of a series of big questions that we have raised and that are intimately related to their past, present and future. In other words, the sustainable future of humanity can be analyzed from the numerical information of several parameters related to all human activities. That is why our exhibition, which will recreate the number in all disciplines of human knowledge, is intertwined with the so-called Sustainable Development Goals of the UN, which, well analyzed, are fundamentally numbers associated  to each objective: zero hunger, the numbers of our energy reserves, the number of inhabitants and their future projection, the city and rural areas, livestock and agriculture, the environment and climate change, etc.
